Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche's Foreword
Buddhism is rich with philosophical
inquiry into the true nature of reality. The Buddha himself began
this tradition by giving detailed presentations of a series of stages
by which a person could gradually learn more and more about the
actual nature of the universe, their own lives, and, most centrally,
their own mind.
The learned Buddhist masters of India
and the other countries to which Buddhism later spread then collected
and wrote commentaries on these philosophical teachings the Buddha
gave, in order to make them accessible to a wider audience.
